Getting Your Pond Ready For Spring

This time of year, at the start of spring is the ideal time for getting outside and organising your pond.

Often after the winter period your pond may have green algae covering the surface of the pond due to the build up of nitrates in the water where there might be old vegetation or fallen leaves may have blown in to the pond.

The best solution is to use a soft bristle brush to collect the blanket weed or you can use barley straw bales which break down the blanket weed over a period of time.

You may want to add Aponegeton which have a beautiful white flower, add milfoil which will oxygenate the pond and cut back marginal plants (or plant new) that surround the pond and will also tidy up the appearance of the pond.
