Description
This is a familiar wild plant found on the banks of streams and rivers in large patches. It is a vigorous spreading perennial with long creeping runners like those of ordinary garden mint, and it is therefore best planted in a basket in the pond shallows to limit its size.
It is a variable plant with several slightly different forms, either listed separately in catalogues or considered to be same plant.

The attractive flowers are a favourite with flying pond insects, as well as bees.
